Superior Stain Resistance And Easy Cleaning
I used to think that vinyl wall coverings were a
stupid idea. I certainly couldn't understand why my friend installed them in
her hallway. The vinyl wall covering that she used was plain white. It
looked, in fact, almost exactly like paint. That is why I thought that she
should just use paint. What's the difference, I thought? Putting up vinyl
wallpaper is more costly, more time-consuming, and more difficult to
replace. Paint, on the other hand, can be replaced very easily. You just
slap up a new coat of paint and that is it. It didn't make any sense to me
not to paint.
In addition, paint comes in so many more rich colors. The vinyl wall
coverings that she used were boring. They came in only basic colors. Before
that, she painted her house in a rich variety of different colors. She used
terra-cotta, cream, slightly greenish blue, and many other beautiful colors.
Why use plain boring vinyl wall coverings when you can paint in any color
that you want? She had always been a big fan of using her house for
self-expression, but now she was keeping it in sterile white.
It took me a few years to figure out the answer. After all, I was a little
bit too polite to ask. She seemed so certain that the vinyl wall coverings
were a good idea that I thought that they must have something going for
them. It turns out that I was right. You see, both of us have young kids,
and young kids are notoriously hard on walls. They rub their grubby hands
all over the wall, and within a year you need to repaint.
I had repainted once, then a second time, before I understood the advantages
of vinyl wall coverings. I was over at her house, and I suddenly noticed how
white her walls were. Did you replace them, I asked? Of course not, she
said, they only need to be replaced every seven years. I wished I had asked
her about the vinyl wall coverings earlier. Repainting the house is such a
hassle for me. Many people like having the opportunity to change the color
on their walls, but I would rather have one that stays indefinitely. Vinyl
wall coverings, I suppose, are the closest thing. It is strange how durable
they are when I consider how easily vinyl floor tile gets dirty. I guess the
vinyl wall coverings get dirty too, but they can be washed clean more easily
than painted walls.
